Today we had Vittorio Sbrocca, Program Director for the Citizens Environmental Alliance, talk to us about the world we live in. Only this morning, I read about what a scam the Paris agreement is for Canada, which has a negative carbon footprint, and then we had Vittorio for our guest speaker. Which one is correct? Well, to tell the truth, they both are!
I think the overall message that we heard this morning from Vittorio could be summed up in four words: We can’t afford to wait! We, like all other inhabitants of our planet, Earth, can not wait for all the holdouts to act. We have to take what ever actions that we can to reduce our carbon footprint while we still can.
Vittorio talked about a lot of ways we can take action, but he told us the most effective solution is a house that is really energy neutral. A house that has enough solar panels, for example, to not only generate enough electricity, but to put the excess energy back into the grid!
Perhaps its not too realistic to put solar panels up on all of our roofs or to put a wind farm in all our back yards, but each of us can do little things that will really add up! As he told us this morning, we all can start right now to change our personal culture. We can each resist the urge to idle our cars every time we stop for a train, or to water our lawns, or to lay down chemical fertilizer or weed killer to make our lawns green. Perhaps a bunch of Dandelions can be viewed as just a bunch of yellow flowers!
Stranger things have happened . . .

‘til we meet again . . .
